The first edition of EN 13445 "Unfired pressure vessels" has been delivered in May 2002. This new standard provides one means of conforming to essential safety requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/CE (so called PED). Through the publication of its reference in the Official Journal of European Union, it gives presumption of conformity to the essential safety requirements identified in Annex ZA of each Part. EN 13445 is therefore a very important reference document in the pressure equipment sector.

Significant changes between the 2009 edition and the 2002 edition are detailed in the document "Changes 2009/2002"

This website is intended to facilitate migration to EN 13445 by providing in an accelerated fashion official answers to questions regarding the application of this newly adopted European Pressure Equipment Standard as well as an updated information about the evolutions of the standard.

Background to the rules in Part 3 Design

The objective of the book Background to the Design rules is to explain the basis of these rules and to help industry to apply them in the most effective way. The release of the book was initiated by EPERC, the European Pressure Equipment Research Council and was awarded a contract of CEN, the European Standardization Committee, with support of the European Commission. It was made possible by the co-operative efforts of a group of leading European experts involved in the preparation of Part 3 of the Standard.
